The twins start school on Monday. Tonight I was putting together their bags and it actually took quite awhile. There was a lot of "stuff" to do.
1. Backpacks labeled with names.
2. Extra change of clothes, all with names in them.
3. Lucas' meds for his asthma for the nurse.
4. "Getting to Know You" forms filled out for each kid.
5. Family photo for both
6. Pick up permission forms filled out.
As I finished packing the bags this evening, Felix was upstairs putting them to bed. I just sat there looking at the bags, wondering where the time had gone. And while it is only preschool, I do feel like a certain chapter is closing. They are no longer babies. They are little people, each with their own personality, quirks, likes and dislikes.
For the past three years, they have really been at home for the most part. I think if we had been packing a bag for day care or something else for the past year or two, this wouldn't feel like such a big deal. As I sat there looking at the bags, my eyes welled up. Not because I was sad, I am not. They are so excited, I am so happy for them. I just don't know how we went from this...
to this...
to this...
to this...
so quickly.
And I guess my biggest fear, is that fifteen years from now, as they head off to college, I will be feeling the same way.
