Friday Night Lights!

Staples High School, the school where I teach, had their first home night game in school history last night.  The school has been trying to get lights to enable the team to play night games, but the neighbors to the school fought it for years.  The school finally got the go ahead and it took about three years to raise the money for the lights.  It was a pretty big deal in our school.  All day yesterday in the hallways, it was all the kids could talk about....everyone was so excited.  So we thought we would bring the kids, if only for a little while.

It was really fun to watch the kids play.  Out of the senior starting lineup, I teach more than half of them.  These boys are some of the nicest young men you will meet.  I teach all of them in Calculus and they are smart, conscientious, and respectful young men.  This is a huge change at our school.  In the past many of the football players I taught were kids who could have cared less about school and who made it hard for any of  the players who did.  So nice to see the tide changing.

We stayed until half time and watch the half time show, and then headed home.  Great first night under the lights...oh, yeah...and they won!  49-21!
