Heading home

Alas, our time in P-Town had come to an end.  We woke up to a beautiful scene outside our balcony.

Bringing the key back to the lobby.

We left early and decided to stop at Mystic on the way back.  It was a beautiful day and it seemed like a good place to stop for lunch.  Liliana looks thrilled in this pic.

All day, Lucas kept saying "Mom!  Take a picture of me in front of this ship!  In front of this anchor!"  Of course I was happy to oblige.

I think the last time I walked around Mystic, I was probably in third grade.  It is SO pretty there!

Another photo request.

We headed through town to find some food and enjoyed our meal at Mystic Pizza.

Three and a half days away in such a beautiful place felt like a week.  Thanks to St. Paul's for organizing the trip!

Herring Cove Beach

We looked up the best place to catch the sunset and we found out that it was Herring Cove Beach, the last beach before the bike trails started.  So our last night there, we headed over there.

We tried to get a pic with all four of us, but you can see how cooperative the kids were being.  Liliana looks like we just kidnapped her from her real family.

Not much better...

So we ditched the kids and took a nice pic of just the two of us, which by the way, I don't think we have taken SINCE the kids have been born (us taking it I mean)

A  friendly dog was on the beach, and Lucas was loving it.

And then we waited as the sun slowly sunk down below the horizon.

Herring Cove beach was absolutely stunning at sunset and I was so glad we trekked back out there again for it.

Afterwards, we headed back to the hotel and spent some time around the fire pit (the nights were quite cold there)

Biking and a dip in the pool...

At the very end of P-Town is part of the Cape Cod National Seashore.  Its the last stop before you hit the Atlantic.  Around these protected lands, there are miles and miles of bike trails through the woods, the dunes and more.  Speaking with people from our church, we were highly encouraged to do it, but were told it was very tough and might be too much if we had the kids in tow.  We decided to try it anyway, and if it proved to much, we would just head back.

This was the first sign that we ran into....strange thing is that a woman who was standing near me while I read the sign, commented that the number had just been 22 last week.  Seems nine people really got in a jam in one week.  Made me a little nervous, I'll admit.

We had the kids in trailers, since we thought that would be easier than having them on our bikes.

Heading out...

This doesn't do it justice, but these are the dunes we were riding through.  Sometimes the dunes were 20 ft high on each side...purely breathtaking.

There are a lot of turnoffs and loops on the trails.  Felix just making sure we were on the right trail...notice he is the only one WITHOUT a helmet...will someone please talk to him about this?

Lucas asleep...

The course was definitely challenging at times, but totally doable.  There were two steep hills throughout the ride and Felix and I took it as a challenge not to get off our bikes.  The last one I was sure I wouldn't make it up, but I guess my training paid off, because as painful as it was, I got to the top just fine.

After a quick bite to eat in town, we headed back to the hotel for some pool time.  A very full and fun day overall.

The Jetty...

P-Town has one main road...Commercial Street.  At the every end, before you head out to the very end of the Cape, there is a rock jetty.  It stretches as far as you can see and is a frequent "must do" for visitors.  So, do we did!

Beautiful scenery as we walked along.

We had to hold on tight to the kids because it was a long fall down some big rocks if they slipped.

A rainbow as we walked along.

It just never ends!

Liliana really wanted to go to the end, although I wasn't too sure where that was.  But a rain storm started in and we turned around.  Last thing we needed to do was to get caught in a rain and wind storm with toddlers on those rocks!  I did promise her that next time we go to P-Town I will walk all the way to the end with her.

This was kind of cool and was at the park right before the jetty.  Some old maps I guess pinpointed this area was where the pilgrims first touched down in MA in 1620.  So long ago!
