Beach Day with Nana...

We met Nana today and took the boat over to Island Beach.

It was a little cloudy early in the morning, so they needed to keep warm after their swim.

Tug of war over the towel...I only brought one in my rush to get out the door.

But then the sun came out...

Chips...yum.

Getting ready to take the boat home...

I think they look so grown up here...almost like they are 5 or something...it's going a little too fast for me.

Enjoying a ride home on the upper deck. Thanks Nana for a great day!

uh oh...

A mistake on my part, I left a lamp on that had an exposed light bulb. Of course, Lucas was attracted to it and placed his whole right hand on it. Burnt his hand quite a bit. I thought ice and some neosporin and a band aid might be ok, but I called the doctors just in case. They asked if any skin had fallen off, and I said yes. To that they replied that they would have to look at it but most likely we would be sent to the burn unit in Bridgeport. That all seemed a bit much for a lightbulb, but I went down so they could look at it.

Turns out, it is very minor (as we thought) but they were able to give us a prescription cream to help the burn and prevent infection. Unfortunately it is his right hand, but he is doing pretty well.

Testing the waters....

I am competing in a triathlon at the end of the summer. Its an olympic distance one (1 mile swim, 25 mile bike, 6 mile run) which I haven't done in seven (yes you read that right-seven) years. I have been training 5-6 days a week for about a month now and hopefully, come August 21st, I will be ready.

This morning, Norwalk was having their Mossman Sprint Triathlon. I didn't sign up for it (it is a smaller race), but I thought it would be good to practice the swim in the open water with all those people. So I sort of "crashed" the race. My plan was to enter the water with everyone else, I just wouldn't continue on with the other two legs.

Felix and the kids came down as well. Unfortunately it meant getting everyone up at 5:30 am, but Lucas and Liliana were wide awake!

Sunrise at the beach pre-race....

Hanging out waiting for the race to start; no bike to prepare, nothing. So we just hung out.

Westsuit on..getting ready to go....

The masses arrive. This race has really grown. Much more sophisticated technology-wise every year.

All ready to go....I didn't have a correct color swim cap for my age group(since I did not pay to enter the race). They are a little strict about that, since that is how the lifeguards can tell how you are doing in the water. For example, if you are in the first wave, and the last wave is passing you, the lifeguards might stick close by just in case. They had some extra caps at the starting line and so I just snagged one...now I really looked like I was part of the race.

The swim was great. It was half the distance I have been practicing (and will have to swim in August) but it is always good practice to swim amongst hundreds of people...you don't get that in a pool.

The kids were GREAT and so we went out to the diner for breakfast afterwards.

Curling up on the couch afterwards. We were all done and back by 8:30am....got a lot packed into an early morning.

A girl and her room...

Christina took the kids to the museum the other day. Seems Lucas and Josephine are always there when our kids go there.

On a side note, Liliana's room is almost painted in full. Now we just need to empty out both rooms completely, clean the carpets and they can move in! (The mide-wall border for Liliana's room is coming in the mail soon) What am I going to put on the walls?

Paco's wedding...

Felix's friend from work-Paco-got married last night. The ceremony was right on the water in NYC...very nice.

Just hanging around

The nice thing about being home during the summer is that I am around for the little things, little funny moments that I often miss when I am at work all day. It makes me appreciate this time so much more.

A boy and his room

It was real hot today. So after Felix got back from work and the kids woke from their nap, we headed to the beach to enjoy the nice cool breeze. As hot as it was, the water is still cold. Lucas and I tried to go swimming, but we didn't get too far. It was so cold, Lucas needed the towel even though the temp was close to 90.

On a side note, Lucas' room is coming along. It's all painted and the border is starting to go up. This was taken at night with a random exposed light bulb in the room, so the colors look muted, but you get the idea. The border is super cute....bigger than I imagined (I ordered it online).

hot summer days

This setup was all their doing. They thought it would be fun to put their ride on toys in the pool. Even picked them up themselves and placed them in....yee haw!

Fireworks Part 2

Sunday Felix and I (and some friends) went out on the boat you see in the background to view the Norwalk fireworks. It poured ALL day, but the skies cleared up right before we headed out and we were able to enjoy quite a nice night.

Let there be light...

This is the room right off the kitchen. Up until now, we haven't used it for much, but this summer we are going to switch it over to the kids' playroom. That way, we can reclaim our living room a bit. There was no real lighting in the room, so we had the electrician come in and put in some recess lighting.

We had him replace the kitchen lighting as well while he was here. It's amazing what a difference a little bit of light can make.

Twin fun!

This afternoon we went over to our neighbors' -Katrin and Arne's- house. They have twins, Lucas and Josephine who are three months older than our twins. They have a HUGE backyard and the kids had a blast while the adults enjoyed some drinks...

Lucas was more daring than usual....

Frieworks Part One

Last night we had the Westport fireworks. We brought the kids down to the beach around 5 for a little water fun before changing and getting ready for the fireworks.

Low tide is so toddler friendly.

Waiting for 9 o'clock.

Sparklers!!!
