As many of you now by now, my new home is Greenwich Hospital. About a week ago, I was at home and started having very minor conractions. The docs however said to call no matter how minor things seemed since I was already considered high risk. So I called in the middle of the night and was told to come to the hospital. While my contractions were mild and considerably spaced out, I was dilated and because of that, the doctors told me that I will remain here until the twins are born.
By the way, our major milestone of 32 weeks came and went this past Sunday. After going for an ultrasound, we found out the babies are measuring over 4 pounds each. Docs seem optimistic with our situation...babies are measuring well and every day they stay inside only makes them stronger.
As for Felix and I, we are making the best of this situation. Felix works during the day while I am here with my mom and then spends each night with me in the hospital. My day consists of meals, nurses testing my blood glucose levels, nurses monitoring the babies, and a sponge bath each day-I am not allowed to get up and take showers. I don't even want to talk about my hair.....which says a lot since I normally do not fuss over my hair.
In terms of of a timeline...it really is a waiting game. It could be two days, it could be a week. Most of the docs seems to think it won't go past another week only because I am dilated further and our little boy has basically flipped back and now both babies are head down, ready to go. So it looks like a natural birth could be possible. Right now, I do experience contractions-some unbearable at times. Most of these come in the wee hours of the morning-between 3 and 5 am. They hold off the contractions with an injection of some medicine that I forget the name of. It used to calm the contractions down totally and now it is taking longer to take its effect, and it doesn't shut down all contraction like behavior. Docs say that eventually, the injections will not be able to stop the contractions and into full labor I will go. Either that or my water will break and they will do nothing to stop labor after that point. But until then, all we can do is wait. Maybe we will make it to week 33...or perhaps 34! Who knows!!!

Practice makes perfect..even if it is with a Cabbage Patch Kid!
Well, my obligations to school are finally finished...midterm exams are graded and report cards have been entered online. Felix and I just finished getting all the necessary items we need off the registry, and so now all there is to do is relax and wait.
So given the all the time I have on my hands I found a Cabbage Patch Kid doll that I think we might have gotten from my brother and his wife in a bag of toys we got. And even though the doll is probably more representative of a 9-10 pound baby (I am totally guessing here) I thought I would practice my swaddling technique before the little ones come.
Pretty good huh? I have to confess it's done with one of those swaddling blankets that hold with velcro, but I was proud nonetheless.
We also just got two adorable little Union College hoodie sweatshirts from a former student of mine. She was up at Union looking at the school and bought the sweatshirts for the twins...too cute.
Today marks Week 31!!! We feel extremely lucky and happy that I am still at home and although my movement seems to be more limited everyday, I am feeling good and actually still able to get a good amount of sleep. Let the good fortune continue.

Animal, Vegetable or Mineral?
Well, those of you who know me, know that my eating habits have not always been the best. I tend to load up on carbs and sweets with occasional servings of fruit, some protein and maybe a vegetable every month or so. Since becoming pregnant, I really have tried to be better with my food intake. I drink much more milk and juice, much less soda. I try to eat a lot of protein; in fact my body craves it, and my fruit intake increased quite a bit.
Today the vegetable gods are striking me down. At the hospital today I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes after failing two glucose tolerance tests. While this condition is quite normal and not that uncommon, unfortunately for me, the first step is to try and control it via diet. Which means very limited carbs and fruit, and much more fats, proteins and vegetables. The only real vegetables I usually eat are corn and peas; at which point I was informed by the nutritionist that they are mostly starches. And so it begins...my first real introduction to vegetables in my adult life. It looks like we are talking broccoli, asparagus, green beans (I like those) and a whole host of other things I have never even tried in my life. And the adventure continues!!!
p.s. Babies are both measuring close to three pounds...they were both head down, and now the boy has flipped and is breech. Sunday marks week 30!!!

Too cute...
And so it begins...the numerous amounts of cute boy/girl twin clothing coming our way. These are two snug suits for the twins..both with a Winnie the Pooh theme. Not so much a snowsuit, not a sleeper, but a warm layer in between. Good for traveling outside in the infant seat I presume. Tomorrow marks week 29!!!
