Museum Mile

Although it was raining, our spirits were not dampened.  After work, I got the twins ready and headed into Manhattan to meet Felix for Museum Mile.  Basically, admission to all museums is free and they close off a mile of 5th Avenue by Central Park and you can walk in the street, listen to music, visit the museums, etc.

Got our rain gear on!

Waiting for the train...this was the twins first Metro North train ride

We found Felix in Grand Central and we headed over to the museums.  I have to say, toting around two toddlers without a stroller is very interesting when in Manhattan.  Everyone moves so fast and they seem very impatient when they need to walk around you with your child.

The fountain outside the Met.

Looking at the map at the entrance to the Met.

I think splashing in the puddles with their boots was just as fun as the Met.

Yes, that's right....ten minutes before bedtime and he's standing outside the Guggenheim!

Felix had moved his car quite close to Central Park so it was a nice short walk to the car through some nice neighborhoods.

We let the kids watch a movie on the way home to keep them awake (didn't want them getting a second wind!)  They were completely wiped out when we got home and easily collapsed into bed.

Ahoy Matey!

Sunday was Pirate Day in Milford.  I get an email every Friday of kid events for the weekend in CT.  Pirate day sounded great.

Lucas got to meet Captain Hook!  They are really into this Disney Junior show Jake and the Neverland Pirates.  Captain Hook is a big part of that show, so Lucas was in seventh heaven.  Liliana on the other hand?  Not so much.

Each family got a treasure map that showed you which stores in Milford were participating in Pirate Day.

At each location, there was a "treasure".  Eye patches, candy, gold "coins" etc.  However,  the eye patches were the big hit.

At each place, you had to give your map over to get checked off and stamped..here's Lucas handing it over at a bookstore.

Hanging out on the town green...trying to beat the heat.

Happy 275th St. Pauls!

Our church is 275 years old this year and this weekend we had our celebration to mark this milestone.  Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate very well, but everyone still turned out and it only drizzled a little.

They had great face painting...

And hat making...

I even joined in on the face painting fun...

I volunteered to be the "point person" for the bounce house.  So it basically meant I was "on" from 10:30 to 3:30 when we left (although I had a LOT of great volunteers that helped me) ....five hours of managing a bounce house can be a lot...but due to the rain, there were some nice lulls.  In this pic, Liliana and Lucas are actually bouncing with another set of twins, Taye and Dash.

The Governor stopped by...

Dancing to the bluegrass band...

Lucas and his hat counting rocks at the 9/11 memorial.

On our church grounds, we have a graveyard with gravestones that date back to the 1700's.  So some members of our church dressed up in period costumes and gave an historic tour of the graveyard (kinda wish I did that)

It was a great day, despite the weather.  We truly feel lucky to have found such a great church.

Friday afternoon at the pool...we were the ONLY ones there.  Had the whole place to ourselves...what a treat.

Little Chef...

This kid loves to cook.  Given the choice to play outside or help out with dinner she always chooses the latter.  Last night it was tilapia.

Big kid helmets....

Is it me or do these helmets look huge?  Their toddler helmets do not fit anymore and so I took them to get new ones.  I assumed Liliana would fit into the 3+ one and Lucas into the 5+ one(his head has always been big)  But to our surprise, neither of those fit on the kids heads...couldn't even get them on.  So Liliana is in a 5+ and Lucas in an 8+.  They have adjustable straps on the side and on the back so they fit nice and snug...they just seem really big to me for some reason.  Oh well, as long as they are safe.

Grandpa comes to visit...

It was a nice day on Sunday and Grandpa came by for a lunch visit.  Liliana was a little camera shy, but Lucas was all for posing with Grandpa for a pic.

Closest we will get to mug shots....(at least we hope)

On Saturday, our pediatrician's office had a pizza party.  During the party, they also had a child identification company come in and all parents were able to have "Child Chip" made.  It consisted of a recent picture, a short clip of the child talking, fingerprints, recent height and weight.  It was a little freaky seeing all of us lined up getting our kids "chipped" just in case they went missing.  But its a good thing to have.  I brought the packages home, put them in the "important documents" file and hope to never need to look at them again.

Lucas and Liliana seemed to like the whole process...especially the interview portion.

TGIF!

This afternoon we were off to "Story and Craft Fridays" at the library.  The children's activity room is getting a remodel so we won't have this for two weeks.  They had the kids paint on the walls (on paper) today..and also supplied extra large tshirts as smocks.

Afterwards we went back to the beach to ride a bit...

And play a bit....

Calf Pasture Beach has had quite the make over..looking very tropical these days...nice!

Sure feels a lot like summer...

We had a fire drill at my school today.  I got outside with my students only to realize what a magnificent day it was.  So when I got home, I took the kids to Shady Beach. There's a nice long loop there where cars have no access.  Great for "scootering".

Afterwards, Felix met us at the Longshore pool.  They swam and swam and swam.

All cozied up and ready to change and go home...

We got home, started the grill up and had bacon cheeseburgers for dinner.  As the title of this post says...it sure feels like summer!

Sushi!

We haven't had a kids cooking class at Whole Foods for a while...but today was Roll Your Own Sushi class.  Now I don't like sushi, but it seems VERY healthy and the kids seem to like it...so off we went.

Sushi rice (unbenownst to me) is a different type of rice...like sticky rice.  So we were supposed to use these gloves, but they didn't have kids sizes so we just washed our hand and rolled it with out the gloves.

The kids each got a square of seaweed...NORI I think it is called.  They put on their rice and then avocado, carrots and some other vegetable...missed the name.

All ready to roll.

Before we cut them.

Lucas counting all his Sushi rolls.

Not too shabby!

Yummmmm.....

Felix and I were away all weekend at a wedding.  For once I didn't take a lot of pics....sometimes I feel like I am always worrying about capturing the moment, but then I lose focus of the moment itself.  So since I was in the wedding and couldn't really carry my phone...we don't have many pics at all.

So, instead of those pics, I bring you this.  I actually posted it on FB last week and it got quite the reaction.  The kids said it was their "cool breakdancing trick"  Ha!  Such little goofballs!
