Beach Party...
It seems as if every day there is a different party at the beach in Norwalk. This weekend, the district of Norwalk that includes the beach community had a "kick-off" . Never fully understood just what they were kicking off, but the kids liked it....
They had touch-a truck...
And special treats....sno-cones and cotton candy
And a really funny man who made great balloons for the kids (Spider Man and a mermaid).

Out with Connie and Wendy
We missed Wendy's birthday because she was on a (FABULOUS) Disney Alaskan cruise! So once she got back, I picke her up, picked Connie up and we all headed over to Target where she could pick out her own birthday present (Connie picked something too). The twins were so good, they each got to pick something small and Lucas came home with this recorder musical instrument that I am regretting buying more and more each day. On the way out, we grabbed some pizza...yum!

Paddleboarding
Beth came down with her kids Evan (9) and Nora (6) for some paddle boarding yesterday. It wasn't super sunny, but the rain held off and more importantly, the water was like glass. Nora came with me on my board and Evan took his own board out. I was so impressed. Nine is the youngest you can be and paddle on your own and he did great on the water for a whole hour and a half!
Afterewards, Felix and the twins met up with us at Compo for some park fun before a pasta dinner at home.

ugh!!!! more heat
Look at that temp! It has been unreal. Friday was the worst of the worst. We went to swim lessons, and then I kept them out of tennis once again-that proved to be money NOT well spent. We spent most of the early afternoon in the pool, just staying cool.
Finally, this weekend, the heat has broken. Having no AC is not so bad anymore! Stay away humidity...stay away.

Keeping cool with friends.
Thursday was supposed to be the worst of it. I decided enough was enough. I took the kids to swim class and then pulled them from tennis. Instead we had a quick lunch and headed down to Larchmont to hang out with Aiko and her kids (in the AC!) I took her two oldest with me and we all went to the movies. She treated us to dinner afterwards-again in the AC! What a difference a cool day makes. here they are (some of them) playing legos.
When I got home, I looked up at my car display and saw this. And this wasn't the crazy high temp you see when you first get in your car. This was after the air conditioner was on for the half hour home (which usually adjusts the outside temp correctly). Too too hot! Especially for the evening!
We gave the kids a cool bath before bed (which has now become a ritual). Lucas was very lethargic and screaming that he didn't want a bath. I felt him and he was burning up. Turns out he had a temp of 103. I was getting concerned that the lack of AC was getting to him (regardless of all our fans and water drinking) I gave him some motrin and checked his temp three hours in a row. By midnight, he was down to 100. Woke up happy as a lark the next morning....who knows.

Ballet and a concert
A local Darien dance school was offering a free ballet class for 3-4 year olds. What a better way to beat the heat! Josephine was also going so we went to her house for lunch before the big event.
I don't think I can fully explain how excited these two were!
They even had an Angelina Ballerina there!
Unfortunately, like many dance studios, parents were not allowed to stay in the studio so I don't really know what went on, but what I got from Liliana is that it was great and fun and wonderful! So that's all that matters.
In the evening, we went to Compo Beach for a kids concert sponsored by Melissa and Doug (the toy people) It wasn't on the beach, but in the shade it was nice and cool. David and Giovanna came too.
I spend all day with the kids, shuttling them around, trying to keep them cool in the heat. It's nice that Felix takes on most of the responsibilty when he comes home. Check out the air that Liliana gets in this shot!!!
Lucas tried... he's like a sack of concrete.....but he got a good jump in.
Hot fun in the summertime!
The heatwave continues! Trying our best to stay cool. Unfortunately, the kids' week of tennis is this week and it is just so hot. So after lessons yesterday, we had a nice lunch picnic under the shade of a tree and then cooled off in the pool. I even treated them to an ice cream. We pass the concession stand every day and they never ask for anything. So, I thought they deserved a nice cold treat.
In the evening, we went over to David and Giovanna's house. We enjoyed pizza and swimming in their pool until almost 9 pm!

Princess and Pirates
A while ago we registered for a princess and pirates party at our library. Great air conditioned fun in the middle of a heat wave! The party was great. It was an hour and a half...we made hats and pirate flags and played games. Each kid even got a goody bag at the end. It was like a birthday party!
The twins with the hostess...Miss Kathy.

Hot, hot, hot....
Did I mention that our central air gave out? No AC in this heatwave is tough stuff. Trying to stay cool....

Beach fun...
We have been at the beach with a lot of our friends recently.
Here are the twins with the Feiffe boys. They are big, tall boys. Even Matthew (to the right of Lucas) is a whole year younger than them. Our kids are dwarves next to them.
On Saturday, the Nose-Seltzer gang came down for a morning at Compo. It was raining a bit, but we waited it out and got some nice time at the beach.

Boating
We were happy to accept an invitation from the Lewertoff's to join them on the boat. We had great weather and the seas were calm, so we were able to make it all the way to a little cove in Long Island.
Lucas kicking back....the motion/rhythm of the boat always puts him to sleep. Five minutes into the hour ride home, he was out.

Fourth of July...
I am a little behind in posting. For the fourth, we went up to see Jen and Brian. They just bought a new house with a fabulous inground pool. Great place to cool off in the early July heat.
In the evening, we went to a town fair, complete with llamas...
and rides...
not to mention fireworks.
The next day we just hung out at the pool and in the evening went to a great outdoor concert where the twins had plenty of room to run and play.
Thanks Jen and Brian! We had a blast!

Adventures in sleeping
Most "big things" in our house are done in the summer time. We have a lot of down time and the school year just seems too busy. So we thought it would be a good time to transition the twins from their toddler beds to twin beds. We had cribs that converted to toddler beds and then into full size beds, but when we put the beds together, they took up the whole room. So we cut our losses, tossed the converter beds and headed out to IKEA to buy new everything! We let the kids play in Small Land while we decided on a bed and when they got out, we let them pick out their own duvet covers and linens.
This is what Liliana picked out.
Lucas proud of his new bed.
I thought perhaps Lucas might fall out of his bed. He moves around a lot at night and often has trouble staying on an air mattress. When I went to check in on him, I found this....
Liliana on the other hand, barely moves....
In the morning, this is how we found Lucas. We had put a chair by his bed to block him if he fell, and he managed to squeeze his pillow and himself in there, albeit upside down.
So we bought a bed rail....
Meanwhile, this is Liliana's favorite new hiding place...under her bed.
