Sure feels a lot like summer...

We had a fire drill at my school today.  I got outside with my students only to realize what a magnificent day it was.  So when I got home, I took the kids to Shady Beach. There's a nice long loop there where cars have no access.  Great for "scootering".

Afterwards, Felix met us at the Longshore pool.  They swam and swam and swam.

All cozied up and ready to change and go home...

We got home, started the grill up and had bacon cheeseburgers for dinner.  As the title of this post says...it sure feels like summer!

Sushi!

We haven't had a kids cooking class at Whole Foods for a while...but today was Roll Your Own Sushi class.  Now I don't like sushi, but it seems VERY healthy and the kids seem to like it...so off we went.

Sushi rice (unbenownst to me) is a different type of rice...like sticky rice.  So we were supposed to use these gloves, but they didn't have kids sizes so we just washed our hand and rolled it with out the gloves.

The kids each got a square of seaweed...NORI I think it is called.  They put on their rice and then avocado, carrots and some other vegetable...missed the name.

All ready to roll.

Before we cut them.

Lucas counting all his Sushi rolls.

Not too shabby!

Yummmmm.....

Felix and I were away all weekend at a wedding.  For once I didn't take a lot of pics....sometimes I feel like I am always worrying about capturing the moment, but then I lose focus of the moment itself.  So since I was in the wedding and couldn't really carry my phone...we don't have many pics at all.

So, instead of those pics, I bring you this.  I actually posted it on FB last week and it got quite the reaction.  The kids said it was their "cool breakdancing trick"  Ha!  Such little goofballs!

Kites

The twins are VERY into kites recently.  And just to our luck, when we went to story and craft time at the library yesterday, it was a story about kites and they each got to make their own paper kite.

Testing them out..

And here is Lucas getting his real kite in the air.

A little bit of everything

We started off Saturday going to the library.  We haven't gone in a while.  It's weird, our kids are now some of the "big kids" in the music and movement class.

Afterwards we went to Cranbury Park for the Tree Festival.  A beautiful day for playing, face painting and lunch outside on the grass.

After a much needed nap, we went to the beach for dinner.  We met the (other) Gomez family there.

The sun went down and it got VERY cold.  I was chilled to the bone, and so I thought the kids would be too.  So it was home and into a warm bubble bath before bed.

Castles in the Sand

Recently, Compo Beach had a Castles in the Sand competition.  People ranging from professionals to my students participated and afterwards, we went down to see the results.

This one was the best...

A Thomas the Train sculpture!  Turns out one of my Calculus students and his friends did this one.  Lucas loved it!

I am telling you summer...we are ready!!!

Crackers and a table

Well, we didn't escape the bug that easily...but it is finally out of the house it seems.  So today, since it was SO beautiful, we were off to Cherry Lawn Park and took some crackers along to feed the ducks.

And, when we got home....it finally arrived!  Our beach table!  For the past two summers we have watched people at the beach with these low little tables.  Since we often eat at the beach, we always say how useful it would be to have one.  Well, apparently, there is a whole market for a "table in a bag".  So ours came today.  The legs unscrew and the table has slats so it all rolls up and fits into an easy to carry shoulder bag...NICE!  Summer, we are ready!!!!

Sick little one (or ones?)

I walked in the door today to find Lucas screaming with Christina and getting violently ill.  We have been lucky in that we have avoided nasty stomach bugs so far.  But this was unreal.  Poor Christina didn't know why he was crying at first and picked him up and got the worst of it.  By the end of it all three of us needed a change of clothes. So for the rest of this rainy afternoon, they will be relaxing and watching Toy Story and Beauty and the Beast...please let it be over (although I know this is wishful thinking...)

Circus!

Yesterday was Mother's Day.  It was absolutely gorgeous out and so we walked down to church.

Afterwards it was off to the circus.  When we got there, kids were able to go down to the three rings and take part in activities...here are L and L jumping around.

This was some crazy motorcycle on a tight-rope with two ladies hanging from it.  There was no net or anything and they were right on top of people.

Of course the lions and tigers...

We all had a great time.  It was great to see the circus through a three year old's eyes....very magical.

Hello Charlie! (and happy birthday Stacy)

Today we went to the Dose house to meet Charlie for the first time.  It was a brunch style gathering and the spread was amazing!

Neha and Charlie.

The boys with their boys.

Neha and I did not coordinate with Aileen very well and there ended up being TWO birthday cakes for Stacy.

Lucas barely able to wait.

Aileen with a gaggle of kids.

I also have to give a shout out to Aiko-it's her birthday as well.  (And I got to see her quickly for five minutes today).  Happy birthday Aikes!

Coco Key

So tonight (Thursday) we decided to go to Coco Key-an indoor water park in Waterbury.  Who doesn't go to a water park on a Thursday evening?!  Ha ha.  We actually went tonight because 1. we obviously felt there would be less of a crowd (and we were right) and 2.  It was called "thrifty Thursday" and everyone gets in for $10.  We weren't sure how good of a fit the park was for three year olds, but for $10/each, it wouldn't really matter.

The place was actually better suited for smaller children (10 and under).  See the little yellow slide in the picture below?  Great for toddlers, and Lucas and Liliana were actually bored with that very quickly.  They spent the majority of their time going down the red and blue tube slides.

Lucas went down a tube slide sitting in some strange way and got tossed around in the tube before being spit out.  It was a little scary hearing him scream in the tube as he came down (whole ride - 3 seconds though)  So we got some ice for him to help his little bump.

It was great.  $10 great and not regular admission great though.  But would definitely consider coming back on some Thursday.  Thanks Coco Key.
